ProperData students awarded fellowships

Olivia Figueira and Ismat Jarin were recently awarded competitive fellowships for the AY 2025-26 (see below). Both are ProperData members, CS PhD candidates at UC Irvine, and active members of the WiCyS student chapter at UCI. Congratulations to Olivia and Ismat!

Olivia Figueira was awarded the Steckler Family Endowed Fellowship for 2025-2026 by the University of California, Irvine’s Donald Bren School of Information & Computer Sciences (ICS). The focus of this fellowship is to support PhD students in ICS whose research, teaching, and/or outreach and professional service activities reflect their commitment to promote computing to women. Olivia is a CS PhD student advised by Prof. Athina Markopoulou and co-advised by Prof. Scott Jordan, and her research focuses on children’s online privacy.

Ismat Jarin was awarded the ESET Women in Cybersecurity Scholarship as part of this year’s 10th anniversary Trailblazer cohort. Recipients are selected from a highly competitive pool of applicants across the US and Canada based on their academic achievements, passion for cybersecurity, and commitment to making a positive impact in STEM fields. Ismat is a CS PhD student advised by Prof. Athina Markopoulou.
