We hosted our new “Research Exploration Workshop on IoT and Privacy” outreach program virtually over a few weekends in May 2021. We invited 60 undergraduate students throughout southern California to learn about cutting edge research in privacy and gain hands on research experience by utilizing Raspberry Pis and Python. The outreach program was co-sponsored by a Google exploreCSR award received by our team members in 2020 and manned by ProperData faculty and graduate students across all our institutions.

This new outreach project builds on activities organized by UCI’s Office of Access and Inclusion, as well as on research carried by the SATC Frontier. Our goal was to broaden the participation of women, underrepresented minorities, and community college students on topics related to security and privacy and to train the next generation of graduate and undergraduate students pursuing careers and research in privacy, cybersecurity, networking, IoT, and policy.
